About The Florida Knowledge Network

The Florida Knowledge Network is the instructional television broadcast service of the Florida Department of Education. The Network is a partnership of the Department of Education, Florida school districts, and Florida public television stations. Florida Knowledge Network and its staff operate from the Turlington Building at 325 West Gaines Street in Tallahassee, FL.

Our Content

Educational Video programs that support Florida's K-12 curriculum and professional development programming for educators make up our primary content. School district representatives annually nominate and select instructional programming. Most programs are leased under statewide copyright license and can be duplicated* and rebroadcast* within Florida. (*Some restrictions apply.)

Our Broadcast

FKN broadcasts on digital channel 801 of the Florida Transponder. The Transponder is located on satellite AMC-3, 87 degrees West, Ku transponder 13, vertical. The Department has provided and installed appropriate satellite reception equipment in every school district, community college, university and public television station to establish a network for statewide reception.

Programming is primarily distributed over digital multicast by Florida's public television stations. Broadcasts may also be received directly from satellite. Many districts and colleges redistribute programming on local cable and wireless public access channels.

We also offer duplication services for Florida School Districts. Most of the programs we broadcast can be copied to DVD or VHS at the request of the district ITV coordinator. For more on that, go to our duplication page.
