Radio Reading Services for the Blind
The Radio Reading Service is a reading service provided to people in the community who are unable to use printed materials due to visual impairment or disability. Many of the participating stations have this service available 24 hours a day; check with your local station to find out times. The Florida Department of Education funds this service, but community volunteers are what makes this program work. Volunteers read local newspapers, magazines and other printed material over a special radio station. Your participating station provides a specially tuned radio receiver - at no cost - to the eligible participant. Then, all you have to do is turn it on.Florida stations providing this service are:
- WFSU-FM, Tallahassee
- WGCU-FM, Fort Myers
- WJCT-FM, Jacksonville
- WLRN-FM, Miami
- WMFE-FM, Orlando
- WQCS-FM, Fort Pierce
- WSRE-TV, Pensacola
- WUFT-FM, Gainesville
- WUSF-FM, Tampa
