Distance Learning Classroom
The design of the distance learning classroom will determine how an instructor teaches a distance learning course, how many can participate and the level of interactivity. There are five basic rules for the design of the distance learning classroom:
- The quality of the signal will never be better than when it leaves the room. Cutting corners in the classroom will impact the remote sites.
- Audio impairments will affect the distance learning session more than any other element. Ambient noise from heating units, air conditioning units, street noise, and room echo contributes to audio impairments.
- Room lighting needs to be designed to eliminate dark shadows, bright wash outs and provide proper temperature balance for the camaras to produce natural skin tones. A room without windows allows for stable and controllable lighting.
- Room design should be intuitive and allow for interactivity. The goal is to simulate the intimacy of teaching in a single classroom.
- Eye Contact! Eye Contact! Eye Contact! Place the cameras over the monitors since the teacher and the students will be looking at the monitors.
