Satellite Services
Satellite services involve the transmission (uplink) and reception (downlink) of video, audio and data by relaying broadcasts to satellites located in geostationary orbit 22,320 miles over the earth's equator for rebroadcast over a large coverage area. There are two main frequency groups used for instructional and distance learning applications, C-band in the 4 GHz range and Ku-band in the 12 GHz range.
It is important to know where and how the instructional and distance learning programming will be delivered in order to choose which satellite downlink hardware to use. If you have specific program needs delivered from a specific satellite, you may want to select a fixed satellite downlink designed for that program's reception. If you need flexibility and anticipate receiving programs from multiple satellites, you may want to select an actuated polar mount satellite downlink.
