TeacherLine of Florida

PBS TeacherLine of Florida offers a program of online professional development courses for educators. As part of a pilot project funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the courses are research and standards based and focus on improving teaching and student learning. Florida Schools (Brevard, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach and others) recognize successful completion of these courses by awarding in-service points for participants. See your local school/district for information.

Ready to Learn

Kids love to learn. The Ready to Learn initiative is here to help learning happen at home, at school, in child care and in the community. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, this initiative creates engaging television and other electronic programs, exciting games, playful Web sites and easy-to-use learning resources for kids, parents, caregivers and teachers - all with the goal of helping children ages 2 to 8 get ready to read. All initiative programs and materials incorporate the latest research about the most effective ways for kids to build reading skills, with special emphasis on the needs of children from low income families. The core of Ready to Learn is a full day of non-violent, commercial-free, educational children's television programming, which is broadcast free of charge to every American household.
