Distance learning involves the use of technology to connect a student with an instructor. The origins of distance learning can be traced to the use of correspondence classes in the early 1800's. Since then, distance learning has evolved by embracing other technological developments - the telegraph, radio, television, satellite, and today, the Internet - to deliver education to learners whenever and wherever they are. Through distance learning, you can take REAL college courses that carry the same college credit as on-campus courses. You register just as you would for an on-campus course. Best of all, the courses are fully accredited and they look the same on your transcript as on-campus classes; the only difference is in the way you learn. Instead of attending lectures or seminars at the campus, you complete lessons at home at times that are convenient for you. Learn more about Distance learning..
Don't throw away your old cell phones!
They can be recycled and turned into financial support for WFIT with our program, "Cell Phones for Public Broadcasting™." Over 200 million Americans have a cell phone. It is estimated that every year, 150 million cell phones go into closets, desk drawers and worse, in the trash. WFIT is raising funds by collecting cell phones and helping the environment by keeping cell phones out of landfills.
Curious Kids Nature Club
An environmental education site based on Southwest Florida's special environmental features. This is a product of a partnership between WGCU Public Media and The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary who share the same objective: to teach children about the interconnectedness of their world and install a sense of environmental respect and stewardship to guide them into becoming responsible adult conservators and citizens. Teachers can find educational curriculum for grades two through seven. All activities are correlated to the Florida Sunshine State Standards, Grade Level Expectations for Science organized by Benchmarks.

KidVision
Television just for kids on WPBT Channel 2! In addition to featuring more than
50 hours of educational programs each week, KidVision works with schools and
community organizations to produce on-air spots geared toward children ages
1 to 10. The spots are unique because local children from the Channel 2 viewing
area are the "stars." The segments are fun and educational, and cover topics
such as how to make friends, stay safe and healthy and succeed in school. KidVision
works closely with local schools, libraries, summer camps and community organizations
to foster learning and encourage self-expression.
Oral History Project
Facilitator Janie Gould has interviewed more than 250 area residents, presented 40 interviews on WQCS's weekday public affairs program, Community Focus, and provided four specials in one-hour and half-hour editions. WQCS has shared the interviews with a variety of historical groups and libraries, including the Florida Archives Library in Tallahassee. The station's Story Van is home to a recording studio and living room setup for the interviews. This project complements NPR's Story Corps series and some of the pieces will also be included in the Library of Congress archives with the Story Corps interviews. From the helicopter pilot for Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, to Florida natives talking about the old days when roads were dirt and there was no air conditioning, to a group of people who survived the 1926, 1928 and 1939 hurricanes, some of the worst to hit the state in its history, the stories have given WQCS many opportunities to share historical events with our listeners. There are many more stories to find and many more people to enjoy them...and WQCS's Story Van is on the road again and again.

The goals will be to help promote a community environment supportive of creative artists and to share their work with the community in such a way as to make living in North Florida even more appreciated.
